Following in his brother Bruce's footsteps, Mr. Cameron pursued an engineering degree at Virginia Military Institute, graduating in 1942. His service as a World War II veteran, including his landing on Normandy beaches two days after D-Day, speaks volumes about his courage and determination.

His tenure as mayor during the challenging years of 1955 to 1957 underscores his unwavering commitment to Wilmington's well-being. Despite the difficulties faced by the city at that time, Mr. Cameron embarked on a mission to diversify the local economy. His pivotal role in establishing Wilmington Industrial Development and his success in attracting major industries like Corning, General Electric, and DuPont are testament to his vision and determination.  Dan was also involved in other ventures including the development of Figure 8 Island, and owner of Wilmington’s WECT-TV news station.
